Biography

Described by Music Web International as a ‘revelation’ (Bella Dama recording of the month November 2012), Raffaele is establishing himself among the most interesting emerging artists in the Italian Baroque scene. Acclaimed for the pureness and the beauty of his voice he has already performed and recorded with many leading conductors. These include Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Paul McCreesh, Nicholas McGegan, Andreas Spering, Christophe Coin, and Claudio Cavina. He has appeared at the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, Bologna Festival, Kings Place London, Misteria Paschalia Krakow, Aldeburgh Festival, London Spitalfield Festival, Freiburg Konzerthaus, Amuz Antwerp, Bach um Vier Köln, Urbino Musica Antica, Brixen Geistliche Musik, PaviaBarocca, Festival van Vlaanderen, Salisbury Art, and St. George's Bristol.

Born in Italy, he started his studies in singing and organ when he was a chorister in Lodi Cathedral, from the age of six under Pietro Panzetti. Continuing his training in London with Colin Baldy and Nicholas Clapton, he was chosen by Sir John Eliot Gardiner for the Monteverdi Apprentices scheme in 2009.

Highlights include, Ottone in L’incoronazione di Poppea, Pastore e Speranza in Monteverdi's Orfeo, Vespro della Beata Vergine for Sir John Eliot Gardiner, Amore in Scarlatti’s Venere Adone Amore and Handel Arcadian Duets with La Venexiana, Bach Christmas Oratorio with Christophe Coin, Handel’s Israel in Egypt with Nicholas McGegan, Bach Cantatas for Andreas Spering. He has also interpreted Cupid in Blow's Venus and Adonis, and Isaac in Charpentier’s Sacrificium Abrahae for La Nuova Musica, and has appeared at the side of Marco Beasley in Handel’s Joshua, Judas and Esther.

Increasingly in demand on opera stages, future engagements include, collaborations with the renown Milan orchestra La Verdi and Haydn Sinfonietta Wien, Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea in Japan and Monteverdi’s Orfeo in Krakow and Bucharest. He will also appear at Halle Händel Festspiele, Urbino Musica Antica, Modena Grandezze e Meraviglie.

Finally, he will return to Bach um Vier Köln with Cappella Augustina directed by Andreas Spering and will participate in the recording of Stradella’s opera La Forza delle Stelle for Mare Nostrum Ensemble (Arcana).
