Bozidar Vukotic | cello

Božidar Vukotić is the founder member of the Tippett Quartet with whom he has performed and broadcast throughout the UK and worldwide. He has recorded extensively with the Quartet, to much critical acclaim, for EMI Classics, Decca, Naxos, Vivat, Signum, Guild, Dutton Epoque, Somm, Classic FM Records, Toccata, and Peter Gabriel’s ‘Real World’ Records, covering a diverse repertoire of Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Glazunov through to the complete quartets of Tippett, Górecki, Lutosławski, Panufnik, Penderecki, Korngold, Rozsa and Bernard Herrmann.

A prize-winner at the National Federation of Music Societies and Jeunesses Musicales International Cello competitions, Božidar made his debut solo recording for EMI Classics on Howard Goodall’s The Seasons. He has performed as soloist with Lawrence Power and the English Chamber Orchestra and has played Continuo in concerti with Pinchas Zukerman and Angela Hewitt. He has also released a recording of Stravinsky and Schnittke for Somm Recordings with the pianist and composer Alissa Firsova.

He was principal cellist for the Oxford Philharmonic for ten years and has since worked regularly as a guest-principal for many of the UK’s finest orchestras, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, English Chamber Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra Ireland and the Ulster Orchestra.

Božidar is a professor at Trinity Laban Conservatoire and also teaches at the Royal Academy of Music. He plays on a 1720 Milanese cello made by Santino Lavazza.
