Rebeca Omordia (piano) Hailed as ‘a classical music game changer’ (Classical Music), London-based award- winning pianist Rebeca Omordia is an exciting virtuoso with a wide-ranging career as soloist, chamber musician, recording artist and artistic director.
Pianist Rebeca Omordia has spent the last decade pioneering repertoire by African classical composers. In 2019 she launched the world’s first ever African Concert Series in London with the aim of creating a platform for African classical music to be performed. The series became resident at Wigmore Hall in 2023.
Performing and recording British Music has been another major project for Rebeca Omordia. Winning the Delius Prize in 2009 opened the door to a duo partnership with world renowned British cellist Julian Lloyd Webber, they toured the UK performing chamber repertoire by British composers in prestigious venues and on live broadcasts on BBC Radio 3. Her Doctoral thesis focuses on the piano music of British composer John Ireland. Further partnerships include a recording project with double bass virtuoso Leon Bosch featuring ‘The British Double Bass Sonatinas’; and the album ‘The Piano Music of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ with pianist Mark Bebbington.
Rebeca was born in Romania to a Romanian mother and a Nigerian father. Having begun to establish a profile in her native country, after graduating from National Music University in Bucharest where she studied with acclaimed Romanian pianist and professor Dana Borsan, she gained scholarships to continue her studies in the UK at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and later at Trinity College of Music in London with professor Mikhail Kazakevich.
