Chamber Domaine
Thomas Kemp (conductor)

The critically acclaimed Chamber Domaine return to Resonus with this portrait of Finland’s most prominent national composer Jean Sibelius.

Featuring a combination of both well and lesser-known works, artistic director and conductor Thomas Kemp leads a programme of instrumental, chamber and string orchestra compositions including the suite for strings, Rakastava (The Lover), the brooding Malinconia for cello and piano (featuring Adrian Bradbury and pianist Sophia Rahman), flute works performed by Sami Junnonen, and the fulsome Andante Festivo in celebrating the depth and versatility of this great composer.

'Sibelius as proto-minimalist – well, why not? [...] It’s not just the cool, spacious recorded sound […] or even the way Kemp clarifies and layers Sibelius’s string sound. It’s the way he shapes and places each phrase, letting it find its own space […] The playing is highly refined, and quiet dynamics are often extremely quiet'

Lark Reviews

'This disc is a fascinating side-long glance at the music of Sibelius, shorter and occasional pieces which complement the larger-scale works, in fine performances.'
